A Passionate Teacher and Entrepreneur

Humanity owes a great deal of success to education. Knowledge from an educated mind is the driving force behind every successful endeavor. Wealth, fame, achievement, and progress are not possible without education. And synonymous to education are teachers, those relentless mentors who one way or the other influenced our young minds, and persuade our thinking, that made us who we are today. Teachers are the unsung heroes of society and the backbone of humanity’s development.

Teacher Rebecca Lomedario is one great example of an indefatigable, and shall we say relentless educator of today, who will do all in her strength and ability to service children with special needs.

She is the school owner, directress, and a teacher of Logic-Gestalt Learning School based in Molino Bacoor, Cavite. This is a special education (SPED) center for people with attention deficit disorder (ADD), attention deficit hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and down syndrome.

"The idea of establishing a SPED school struck me after I got invited as a speaker in UNIDA College. Inspiration thump and throb in my heart. I know that I could help others through my ability to teach. And the rest is history."

In her intent to help children and their families with down syndrome, Teacher Beng sacrificed a lot. Most of her hard earned savings were channeled into upgrading and advancement of the school. She attended expensive seminars and workshops like those of Howard Gardner of Sigmund Freud fame, and a leading proponent in multi-intelligence method teaching that is being widely used in the US. She also attended workshops on "educating all kinds of mind" by Lavigne, a famous psychologist. The learnings she got from those expensive seminars and workshops were all incorporated in the school curriculum she developed, with guidance of friends from a well established SPED school in Metro Manila.

"I’ve always dreamed of having a SPED school of my own that operates on low tuition fees. It must be affordable to common families that lives nearby our place. SPED education is much expensive compared to mainstream learning and a 5 million population of people with down syndrome here in the Philippines just can’t be ignored.

In other SPED school, like in the NCR, tuition fees may range from P70,000 to P100,000 student per year. That is an expensive undertaking for an average family with an ordinary stature in life. I know that I can’t do the same pricing here in our community being as most households have a lower middle class standing. Even that, I can’t compromise the quality of education either."

Beng strives to be revolutionary in her way of teaching. Her approach attracts the parents to send their kids to Logic-Gestalt Learning Centre. "It is more of an experiential way of learning. "I believe that kids will learn more if they will experience first-hand what they are being taught of, as the right and left brain (logic-gestalt) functions accordingly.

In my twelve years of experience in teaching, I observed that students are more likely to learn by their own discovery. I grew up in old school where memorization and tons of copying and writing on the blackboard were the main method in learning, I guess things like that should be changed."

Indeed, success does not come only through monetarily gains, Logic-Gestalt, in its few years of existence haven’t reach yet the glory of financial splendor. However, the school is on its way of constructing another building to cater its growing student population. The school becoming famous among the hearts of the nearby community, by word of mouth and the reputation it has built over its short period of survival.

Logic-Gestalt also caters to nursery, kinder, prep, and those of students with ADD, ADHD, and Down syndrome. They also offer summer classes and tutorials.
